From Tracks to Vehicle Bodies: The Full-Scenario Application of Fasteners in Rail Transit

As China’s railway network, high-speed rail, and urban transit continue to expand, rail transit has become one of the most technologically intensive and systemically coordinated infrastructure sectors. Within this complex system, fasteners—though small in size—play a crucial role across track structures, vehicle manufacturing, equipment installation, and long-term maintenance. Their performance directly impacts operational safety, structural stability, and service life. To spotlight fasteners’ full-chain applications and technological evolution in rail transit, the 16th Fastener Expo Shanghai 2026 will take place from June 24–26 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai. The exhibition will cover 70,000㎡, hosting over 1,400 exhibitors and 25,000 professional visitors, offering a comprehensive platform for solutions in rail transit and other key application sectors.
In track infrastructure, rails, sleepers, and fastening systems rely on high-reliability fasteners for stable connections. These fasteners must endure cyclic loads and vibrations from high-speed trains, as well as challenges such as temperature variation and environmental corrosion. Material selection, structural design, and anti-loosening performance are critical. Whether in ballastless track slab connections or conventional ballasted fastening systems, fasteners are key to maintaining track geometry and alignment stability.
Fasteners’ role in vehicle manufacturing is even more specialized. Car bodies, bogies, braking systems, traction equipment, and interior fittings all rely on high-strength, consistent fasteners. For high-speed and urban rail vehicles, fasteners must meet strength and fatigue-resistance requirements while supporting lightweight and modular assembly. Fasteners have thus evolved from simple “connecting parts” to essential components influencing overall vehicle structural design, operational safety redundancy, and maintenance costs.
As rail transit shifts from expansion to high-quality operation, fasteners’ role in long-term maintenance grows. Monitoring bolt condition, maintaining preload, and managing replacement cycles are critical for safe operation. This raises the bar for stability and traceability, driving closer collaboration among manufacturers and testing institutions on standards, inspection methods, and quality control.
As a key industry platform, Fastener Expo Shanghai has long supported technology adoption and application integration in rail transit. After fifteen editions, the expo has grown into one of the “three major global fastener shows,” with 65,000㎡ of exhibition space in 2025, becoming the largest fastener professional exhibition worldwide. This mature platform provides a solid foundation for rail fasteners to move from single-product display to system-wide application exchange.
The 16th edition in 2026 will focus on rail transit applications “from tracks to vehicle bodies,” presenting fastener selection, performance, and trends across infrastructure and vehicle manufacturing. Through case studies, technical exhibits, and industry dialogue, the expo will reinforce fasteners’ critical role in rail transit systems, supporting the sector’s continuous improvements in safety, reliability, and standardization.
